For nearly ten years Robin has been sharing the stage with artist, illustrator and presenter James Mayhew and de Havilland Philharmonic, presenting a series of sell-out family concerts and associated events each season. Both Robin and James believe passionately in the power of music to transform lives, not least those of youngsters often hearing an orchestra for the very first time.

Robin’s performances with James have been so inspirational and successful that són brought them together for their very first family concert in Southampton in June 2016 – celebrating Shakespeare’s 400th anniversary with a performance of Mendelssohn’s complete incidental music to A Midsummernight’s Dream at Turner Sims. The two of them will repeat the performance in autumn 2016 in back-to-back family concerts with de Havilland Philharmonic Orchestra.

Together they’ve touched the lives of thousands of children (not to mention the adults they bring along, too) over countless concerts and other educational events. They’ve inspired many to learn an instrument, read more of the great tales of literature, and to develop their artistic skills further. Robin has conducted an extraordinary selection of masterworks as part of these concerts, including Scheherazade, The Firebird, Billy the Kid, The Planets, Peter and the Wolf plus three of Tchaikovsky’s ballets.

A selection of films feature Robin and James on the concert stage together, including the two shown here on the right: the first explores their collaboration on A Heroes and Villains including some backstage and rehearsal extracts; the second brings a complete performance of Grieg’s Solveig’s Song to life, showing James painting live as Robin conducts de Havilland Philharmonic in concert.
